The York Minister development will create a world-class Centre of Excellence for research, education and training consists of two buildings, the Heritage Quad and the Technology Hub.

The scheme houses masons’ workshop, new state-of-the-art digital fabrication tools, a drawing room and a hall of residence for interns and international collaborations.

The scheme has adopted a zero carbon design philosophy based on fabric first approach, heat recovery, the use of heat pumps and local solar power generation. Existing structures will be reused and renewed to minimise the embodied carbon.

Active cooling has been designed out using generous natural ventilation, external shading and use of exposed thermal mass optimised by overheating simulation.
